STOW: Apple butter demonstrations, music, food, craft booths and corn hole are on the agenda at this weekend’s Harvest Festival, an annual Stow Historical Society fundraising event for nearly three decades. The event, at the Heritage Barn at Silver Springs Park, 5120 Young Road, will run 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.Admission and parking are free. Proceeds from food sales and vendor booths help the society maintain three historic buildings. All three of those restored homes — Heritage House, Darrow House and Mary Starr House – will be open for tours during the two-day festival. It’s the only time during the year all three are open to the public.A major attraction of the festival is the apple butter, which is made over an open fire with visitors encouraged to help stir the mixture with a large wooden paddle. Orders are taken Saturday, the butter is processed that evening, and buyers can pick up their butter Sunday.About 20 crafters will be selling handmade items.Matt Schaffer will play music from the 1930s and 1940s both days from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.. At 2:45 p.m. Sunday, Dave Henterly will perform on spoons and washboard.Society member Bob Flower said kids can try their hand at pumpkin painting and sand art, and families can dine on sausage, hot dogs, sloppy joes, pie and ice cream in the Heritage Barn.Paula Schleis can be reached at 330-996-3741 or pschleis@thebeaconjournal.com.
